This study is to analyze the statistical characteristics of the maximum annual rainfall for selected durations in Korea. In this study, used basic data are annual maximum rainfall at 54 stations that has the rainfall records more than 20 years. So far, very little has been done analysis of statistical characteristic about annual maximum rainfall. The purpose of this study is to analyze the basic statistics(mean, variation, standard deviation, skewness, coefficient of variation), randomness and persistence. The conclusion which can be drawn from this study are as follows : 1) In the short duration, the mean value has increased as the observed period increases, but the mean value has decreased as the observed period increases in the long duration. 2) Variation, standard deviation and coefficient of variation have decreased as the observed period increases at the most of stations. 3) The skewness has not any pattern and is shown random value without affection due to observed period. 4) Most of rainfall data shows the randomness, but several stations have the persistence in the correlogram.
