다시 미국의 “문화 충돌”-텍사스 사회 교과서, AP 미국사 교육과정, 『공통 핵심』논쟁- = Current Cultural Clash in the U.S. around Texas Socials Studies Textbook, AP History Curriculum and Common Core

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article examines current ‘cultural clash’ taken place in the United States focusing on the Texas` latest social studies textbook tussle, the AP history curriculum controversy, and the Common Core controversy. Texas` latest history, geography and government textbooks that were submitted for approval for use in classrooms in 2014 were criticized by both academics and activists on the right and the left. They complained that some textbooks offer ideology over facts. Republican law makers in several states complained that AP history curriculum were anti-American and submitted law to ban AP history curriculum and test. In response, academics and activists protested against the law to ban AP curriculum. Meanwhile, the Common Core were developed and adopted by more than 40 states. Some Republicans demands that it be repealed while many including a few Republicans call for it. This article elaborates the issues of those controversies, and from which some implications for Korean history education are drawn.
