최근 한국 보수정부의 역사교육정책과 국가주의 역사교육 = A review of recent history education policies of korean conservative government and nationalism in history education

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Since 2008, for seven or eight years, a close sequence of serious incidents which may be described as‘civil war in history education’have devastated school history education. Several progressive scholars try to conceptualize these confusing and regressive phenomena as the revival of‘ Nationalist history education’of Korea in the 21st century. First, educational authorities of conservative government, violating the legal procedures, forced modifying the content of textbooks on authors and publishers of Korean modern and contemporary history textbook. Second, we have had two very‘political power necessary’revision of national curriculum in 2011 and 2015. It is a complete and utter nonsense, but the government turned a deaf ear to advices concerning the distortion of history education. As a result, modern history education has been considerably weakened in highschool, furthermore, in the contemporary unit of highschool Korean history, important and essential learning elements of‘shadows of economic growth’, ‘tasks for the development of democracy’for critical history understanding as civic virtue were almost entirely ignored or disappeared. Third, educational authorities is in the process of a changing textbook publication system, to government-published textbooks, the one of the key policies of Park Geun-hye administration. All above, lead towards one conclusion, nationalism in history education. It means we really are facing an desperate crisis. But, it is high time that teachers, professors and civic groups pool their wisdom to set up a new educational vision through critical researches and civic movements in a move to turn crisis of history education into history education for democratic citizen.
