비판적 공간연구와 사회적 가치 논의의 만남: 공간적 역량 개념을 매개로 = The Encounter between Critical Geography and Urban Studies and Social Value Discussions through the Concept of Spatial Capability

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is a conceptual approach to the spatial aspect of social value that is lacking in previous studies. It reinterprets existing critical geography and urban studies on space to link them to discussions on social value. This research helps clarify the approaches in critical geography and urban studies so that they ultimately pursue and develop social value in spatial capability. To that aim, the concept of social value in spatial capability is suggested in three areas including place-making, the use of places, and mobilities. The intertwinement of social value and spatial capability refocuses the intent of critical geography to suggest flexible and creative innovations for social change.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 사회적 가치, 사회혁신 개념에 대한 공간적 탐색이다. 사회적 가치 논의에서 다소 소홀히 다루어진 공간/장소적 측면을 이론적으로 고찰하고 기존의 비판적 공간연구 논의를 사회적 가치, 사회혁신 개념과 연결시키는 것이다. 그 연결고리를 위해, 이 연구는 장소 만들기와 공간 이용에서 가용적 기회와 자유를 뜻하는 ‘공간적 역량(spatial capability)’ 개념을 제안한다. 그리하여 본 논문은 사회적 가치와 비판적 공간연구가 공통적으로 가지는 궁극적인 목적이 공간적 역량 강화임을 밝힘과 동시에 사회적 가치, 사회혁신을 공간 이론화하여 정치성과 지역성을 살리고자 한다. 공간적 역량은 다음 세 가지 분야의 역량을 뜻한다. 첫째, 장소 만들기에 참여할 수 있는 역량, 둘째, 거주, 노동, 휴식을 위해 공간을 이용할 수 있는 역량, 셋째, 공간을 가로지르면서 이동할 수 있는 역량이다. 사회적 가치와 공간적 역량 개념은 비판적 공간연구의 지향점을 밝혀주고 개혁 방법의 유연함과 창조성을 가져다줄 것이다.
