This thesis presents the exploration and analysis of various musical genres performed at the graduation concert for the master's degree themed "My Favorite Things." It covers compositions across genres such as Blues Funk, Fusion Jazz, Ballad, Bounce Funk, and Progressive Rock, focusing on the diverse harmonies, rhythm patterns and tempo changes in the original compositions. In particular, the paper discusses pieces that incorporate polyrhythm, polymeter, and Metric Modulation, highlighting cases where multiple tempos and timings can be felt within the same phrase. It also examines the richness of musical expression afforded by the use of varied rhythm patterns. This analysis aids in understanding the characteristics of each genre and illuminates the impact of complex rhythmic structures on music. Furthermore, the thesis investigates methods to enrich harmonic diversity and depth through techniques such as melody development, where similar melodies are repeated and developed, and various harmonic progressions, including modal interchange.
In conclusion, it demonstrates that the fusion of various genres, rhythm patterns and harmonic elements can promote musical creativity and provide a rich and diverse musical experience. These findings will serve as valuable resources for music researchers and practitioners; they are expected to be significant reference materials for future musical exploration and creation.
