영상 프로젝션을 적용한 중국 전통 그림자극의 제작 및 평가에 관한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

그림자극은 중국 전통예술의 일종으로 무형 문화 재산에 속하여 수천 년의 세월을 거쳐 찬란한 중국 전통문화를 축적해왔다. 그림자극을 대표하는 예술이 가진 특출한 장점은 매우 많고 과학기술이 급히 발전하는 오늘날의 조류 속에서도 그 광채는 지켜져야 한다. 그것을 바탕으로 그림자극은 중국에서 매우 높은 문화적 지위를 차지하고 있다. 그러나 전통예술에 비해 뉴 미디어 아트가 급격히 발전하는 현대에 들어, 영상 프로젝션 기술 또한 비약적으로 발전하고 있다. 영상 프로젝션은 디지털 미디어 기술을 바탕으로 하여 최근 유행하고 있는 예술형식의 하나다. 제작방법이 간편하고 전파 속도가 빠른 한편 작품의 구현형식이 풍부하고 생동감 있다. 영상 프로젝션은 이성적인 사유와 예술적 감성을 한데 융합하여 기술과 예술의 결합을 완벽하게 표현한다. 새로운 기술이 주류를 이루어 가는 가운데 그림자극은 전통 예술체계에서 어떻게 발전해야 할지, 영상 프로젝션과 어떻게 융합해야 할지에 대한 행보가 주목된다.
본 연구에서 중국 태산(泰山) 전통 그림자극인 <와 학 귀 (蛙鹤龟, 즉 개구리, 두루미, 거북이의 뜻)>에 대하여 연구하고 분석한 후에 전통 예술 형식을 뉴 미디어 아트의 창의성과 결합하여 제작한 작품을 소개한다. 영상의 제작과 연출 과정 중에 중국 전통시의 제작법인 起 承 轉 結 의 방법으로 이야기 내용을 표현한다. 최종의 연출효과를 통하여 전통그림자극과 프로젝션을 결합한 그림자극의 각자의 특징과 전통 그림자극의 단점을 분석하였다. 이론적인 의미와 현실적인 공헌 그리고 그림자극의 미래 이 세 가지 효과를 통하여 뉴 미디어 아트와 결합한 그림자극의 가능성을 발견한다. 그리고 중국 인간 문화의 계승에 많은 유행 요소를 부여하며 진부한 것을 제외하고 그 정수를 취한다. 이 새로운 방식은 스스로의 장점을 살리면서도 기존방식의 단점을 보완할 수 있다. 그리고 <와 학 귀 (蛙鹤龟)> 전시를 통하여 중국 전통그림자극 발전의 새로운 희망을 보이고, 그림자극의 전파에 촉진 역할을 한다. 프로젝션은 현재 트렌드인 문화 전파방식의 일종으로 사람의 일상생활에 깊이 파고 들어가며 문화 영역을 넘어 다양한 방면으로 적극적으로 확산하고 있다.
또한 본 논문은 이론적 의의, 현실적 공헌과 중국 전통그림자극의 새로운 도전을 중심으로 탐구하고 연구한다. 본 논문에서는 우선 중국 전통그림자극 예술과 뉴 미디어 아트에 대하여 연구하여 그것들의 개념과 발전과정을 설명한다. 현황과 특징에 대한 연구를 출발점으로 하여 중국 전통그림자극이 현대 중국에서 직면하고 있는 문제점을 조명한다. 그 다음 영상 프로젝션의 표현방식을 바탕으로 하여 그림자극 공연에의 적용가능성을 분석하고 양측 기술을 결합할 수 있는 계기를 찾는다. 즉 프로젝션 기술을 통해 전통 그림자극 작품을 보여주는 새로운 연출형식을 제안한다. 관객에게 기존 전통그림자극이 제공하는 경험 이상의 새로운 체험을 제공할 것이며, 전통 그림자극의 발전에 대한 방향성을 제시할 수 있을 것이다. 뉴 미디어 아트의 진화에 따라 전통그림자 예술의 색깔이 더욱 두드러질 것 수 있으며 전통 그림자극과의 접목을 통해 뉴미디어 아트의 새로운 방향 또한 제시될 수 있다. 그림자극과 뉴 미디어 아트의 결합은 다양한 표현 형식에 그치지 않고 새로운 미디어 아트의 민족적인 특징을 강화하면서 전통 그림자 예술의 보호를 강화하고 그것의 발전을 촉진해 나가는 것에 의의가 있다. 역사가 깊은 중국 전통 인간 문화인 그림자극은 뉴 미디어 아트의 영향 하에 더욱 넓은 공간을 개척할 수 있다고 생각된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Shadow play is a traditional Chinese human art that belongs to intangible cultural properties and has accumulated splendid conventional Chinese culture over thousands of years. Based on this, shadow play occupies a very high cultural status in China. However, in modern times when new media art is rapidly developing compared to traditional art, video projection technology proliferates. Video projection is one of the most famous art forms in recent years based on digital media technology. The production method is fast and straightforward, while the work’s implementation format is abundant and lively. Video projection perfectly expresses the combination of science and art by combining rational and emotional reasons of art. As new technology is mainstreaming, it is noteworthy how shadow play should develop in the traditional human art system and how they should converge with video projection.
In this study, we study and analyze Chinese Taesan traditional shadow play and introduce works produced by combining traditional art forms with new media art creativity. Through the final production effect, each characteristic of shadow play combining classic shadow play and projection and the lack of traditional shadow play were analyzed. Theoretical meaning, realistic contribution, and shadow play's future find the possibility of shadow play combined with new media art through three effects. And it gives many fashionable elements to the succession of Chinese human culture and takes its essence except for the cliché. This new method can make up for the shortcomings of the existing method while emphasizing its strengths.
This paper also explores and studies theoretical significance, realistic contributions, and novel challenges of traditional Chinese shadow play. This paper first learns traditional Chinese shadow play art and new media art to illustrate their concepts and development processes. The study of the status quo and features as the starting point, it sheds light on the problems that traditional Chinese shadow play face in modern China. Then, based on the representation method of the video projection, we analyze the applicability to shadow play performance and find an opportunity to combine both techniques. In other words, we propose a new form of production that shows traditional shadow play works through projection techniques. It will provide audiences with a unique experience beyond the experience that traditional shadow play offers. It will be able to provide direction for the development of traditional shadow play. With the evolution of new media art, the color of traditional shadow art may become more prominent, and new media art directions can also be presented through the combination with traditional shadow play. The variety of shadow play and contemporary media art is meaningful in strengthening traditional shadow art and promoting its development while maintaining the ethnic characteristics of new media art, not just in various expression forms. Shadow play, a traditional Chinese human culture with a deep history, is thought to pioneer a more expansive space under New Media Art's influence.
