일반적 정의와 특수한 정의 -아리스토텔레스의 정의(正義) 개념 연구- = General Justice and Par ticular Justice -A Study on Aristotle’s Conception of Justice-

국문 초록 (Abstract)

아리스토텔레스의 정의론에 대한 연구 및 소개는 『니코마코스윤리학』 5권 2∼4장의 특수한 정의(산술적 동등성, 기하학적 동등성)에 집중되어 있다. 대부분의 주석가들은 1장에서 언명되는 일반적 정의(전체적 정의)에 대해 별 관심이 없거나 그 지위를 평가절하하고 있는 것으로 보인다. 그들이 보기에는 일반적 정의는 5권 1장과 2장 초반부에 나타났다가 갑자기 실종되는 개념이다. 나는 이런 독해를 교정하고자 한다. 기존의 주석가들 대부분은 1장과 2장의 관계를 너무 ‘편안한’ 자세로 읽고 있기 때문이다. 또한 그들은 일반적 정의가 가지는 덕으로서의 기능과 의미에 관해 별로 주목하지 않았기 때문이다. 나의 논제는 다음과 같다. 1장에서 논의되는 일반적 정의는 2장부터 논의되는 특수한 정의보다 훨씬 더 의미심장하게 EN v 전체를 관통하는 굵은 그리고 일관적인 주제다. 어떤 의미에서, 1장의 아이디어가 마지막 11장까지 다 지배하고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The most of researches on and introductions into Aristotle’s theory of justice are concentrated on the theme of particular justice as it is presented in his Nicomachean Ethics, Bk.5, ch.2-4. Most commentators seem to have no interest on the theme of general justice mentioned in ch.1 or to be inclined to underestimate it. As they take it, that concept appears in ch.1 through the early part of ch.2 and then suddenly disappears. I will correct this reading. Most of them are reading the relation of ch.1 and ch.2 in too a ‘complacent’ posture. Further, they pay little attention to the function and meaning that the general justice, as far as it is a virtue, has. My thesis goes as follows. The general justice discussed in ch.1 reveals itself to be a by far thicker and more significantly consistent key concept than the particular one discussed from ch.2 on. The idea of ch.1 in some sense dominates all parts through up to the last chapter of the 5^th book.
