This study has examined the relationship between economic/leisure activities and subjective well-being of the rural older people who were above 75 years old. The results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, the analysis of difference in subjective well-being according to socio-economic characteristics showed that the male elderly people who are younger, more educated, in better health, and in higher economic level have more positive emotions. In regard to religion, positive emotions were the highest for the others, followed by Christianity, atheist, Catholicism, and Buddhism. Second, the analysis by economic and leisure activities showed that more positive emotions were found in the elderly engaged in economic activity for non-livelihood. Third, the analysis of effects of economic and leisure activities on subjective well-being showed that sociability and self-development had positive effects on positive emotions, while passing time had a negative effect on positive emotions. In conclusion, it is necessary to change the way we understand the elderly as a negative being. What is more, various leisure programs should be developed to improve subjective well-being of the elderly.
