      Purpose Multi-generation product planning has been used for many firms as it helps to innovate based on the existing installed base and to easily satisfy customer needs. This study aims to suggest a DTM-based new approach to the multi-generation product planning.
      Methods The DTM is used to monitor and analyze the dynamic trends of customer needs. Based on the DTM analysis, volatility and trend indicators are suggestd to capture the dynamics of customer needs. Based on these indicators, how to plan the next generation product is designed.
      Results As a case study, seven topics are identified throughout the iPhone6 to iPhone12. Each topic is evaluated under the suggested indexes: volatility and trend. Topics need be concentrate is customer service, packaging, and screen/visual.
      Conclusion This study contributes to the fields in that it suggests a DTM-based tool for multi-generaton product planning. The volatility and trend indexes are effectively used to capture the dynamic customer needs and develop further product plan.
