This study reviews the concept of urban waterfront developments and types and their main physical planning and design elements analysing the typological view of the waterfront projects (mostly in U. S. and Europe) with reference sources.
The author’s best choices of the visual images and spatial patterns for preferred waterfront design elements are suggested with photo illustration to demonstrate the basic image of what the preferred waterfront spatial design ought to be and could be when waterfront developments progress towards the mixed uses and people-place concept.
The survey analysis of the student’s(Architecture Dept. Students) response to the preferred waterfront image and design suggests the importance of the maximum openness and public access to the waterfronts as rest, promenade. cultural activity spaces with curvilinear building arrangement, public transportation and waterfront park.
