The North Korean leadership`s discussions on nation and nationalism indicate `socialist nationalism` as its ruling ideology. North Korean socialism has become the so-called Kim jong Il style of socialism, which identifies `independent national reunification` as the path towards Korean unification as well as a means to patriotism. socialist nationalism combines a cohesive logic for regime maintenance amidst the unfavorable environmental changes at home and abroad, while independent national reunification has placed its destiny at par with the fate of the nation, the state, and the Su-Ryung. A deepening crisis in the North will lead to a growing inclination towards a socialist nationalism. And the logic for independent national reunification will widely be emphasized as propaganda for unifying the nation, the state, and the regime at home and pursuing co-existence abroad, through equalizing the Chosun nation, the North Korean socialism, and the Su-Ryung Kim Jong Il regime altogether. For further reconciliation and cooperation between the two Koreas, discussions on unifying nation and nationalism should be continuously expanded with perception and feelings of cultural community, while discussions on peace and prosperity as well as on nationalism for economic community, which would before everything establish feelings of a collective responsibility as the same-destiny community through the medium of peace and co-prosperity of the Korean people should be aggressively continued. Nationalism for unifying South Korea and the North should ultimately be based on `liberal democratic nationalism.`
