시편 88편: 감당할 수 없는 고난 중에 있는 사람을 위한 기도 = Psalm 88: A Prayer for Those in the Midst of Unbearable Suffering

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구의 목적은 시편 88편을 통하여 감당할 수 없는 고난 중에 있는 사람들을 위한 어떤 메시지를 찾을 수 있는지 가능성을 탐구하기 위한 것이다. 시편 88편은 가장 암울한 시편으로 여겨지고 있으며, 어떠한 찬양, 분위기 급전, 구원에 관한 요소도 결핍하고 있는 예외적인 탄식시이지만, 시편 기자가 던지는 수사학적 항의의 질문은 오늘날을 살아가는 우리에게 기도에 관한 여러 가지 통찰력을 제시한다. 이를 위하여 이 논문에서는 먼저, 세 번에 걸친 간청(1-2절, 9절, 13절)을 중심으로 시편 88편의 짜임새를 탐구하고, 그 사이에서 중요한 역할을 하는 수사학적 질문(10-12절)의 중요성을 입증한다. 그다음으로 수사학적 질문에 관한 선행 연구와 수사학적 질문이 암시하는 상황에 대해 살피고, 수사학적 질문이 가진 ‘항의의 질문’으로서의 신학적 함의를 탐구한다. 마지막으로 강력한 수사학적 항의의 질문 이후에도 반복되는 탄식과 끝나지 않은 기도의 의미를 살피고, 고난 중에서 계속 기도하는 사람들을 위한 메시지를 생각해 본다. 본 논문은 시편 88편이 병들어 죽음 앞에 있는 사람들만을 위한 것이 아니라, 하나님께 버림받는 것처럼 여겨지는 상황을 은유하는 스올과 같은 상황 속에 있는 사람들이 계속 기도하며 항의의 질문을 던질 수 있도록 하는 시편이라고 봄으로 기존의 연구와 관점을 확장한다. 본 논문을 통하여 독자들은 찬양으로 끝나지 않는 독특한 탄식시인 시편 88편의 가치를 새롭게 발견하게 될 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to explore the possibility of finding a message through Psalm 88 for those in the midst of unbearable suffering. Psalm 88 is considered the darkest of the Psalms, lacking any elements of praise, sudden change in mood, and salvation. However, the rhetorical questions of protest posed by the psalmist offer various insights into prayer for us today. For this purpose, this paper first examines the structure of Psalm 88, focusing on the three petitions (verses 1-2, 9, and 13), and demonstrates the importance of the rhetorical questions (verses 10-12) that play a crucial role in between. Second, it reviews previous studies on rhetorical questions and the situations implied by these questions, and explores the theological implications of rhetorical questions as ‘questions of protest.’ Finally, it considers the meaning of the repeated lament and the unfinished prayer even after the strong rhetorical questions of protest, and contemplates the message for those who continue to pray in the midst of suffering. This paper expands the existing research and perspectives by viewing Psalm 88 not only as a psalm for those who are sick and facing death but also as a psalm for those in situations l ike Sheol, metaphorically representing situations where one feels abandoned by God, encouraging them to continue praying and posing questions of protest. Through this paper, readers will newly discover the value of Psalm 88, a unique lament psalm that does not end in praise.
