      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper examines the two characteristics of La La Land (2016) as a musical film: the liberation from the managed heart and psychological healing.
To shed light on the two points, this research will specifically analyze a lot of musical text and the meaning in La La Land. First of all, this study will define the meaning of ‘La La Land,’ whose term has the double meaning: California(particularly the Hollywood district of Los Angeles) or utopia in one’s mind. Secondly, the form of La La Land that takes similar forms to American musical film and the effects of it are to be intensively illuminated. La La Land not only uses a lot of musical texts but also chooses the retro style of the 1950s, which arouses a lot of nostalgia among the world viewers. Many playful and catchy soundtracks and dances in the film also permeate to the love story surrounding Los Angeles and the characters seeking for their own La La Land.
In La La Land, characters enjoy every moment through mutual chanting. These musical languages naturally make the characters move forward to their future dreams and discover challenges out of their managed heart. Mixed with musical and a fairy-tale love story genres, viewers also become the dancers in La La Land by experiencing the pleasure of their own bodies and finally become liberal subjects by experiencing psychological healing like the dancers in La La Land.
