Kaolinite is a natural mineral rich in clay, a layered silicate mineral with tetrahedral silica and octahedral alumina. Recent studies have reported the use of functional kaolinite as a filler to improve the performance of epoxy paints. In this study, the surface of kaolinite was activated with piranha solution and then modified with TMCS and HMDS on kaolinite surface. The modified surface properties of kaolinite were analyzed by FT IR and XPS. The shape of the modified kaolinite was observed by SEM and TEM analysis. The hydrophobicity of the kaolinite-added epoxy coating was analyzed by contact angle measurement.
