A basic study was performed on mechanical characteristics of sintering zirconia in a box-typed electric furnace at a temperature increased by 10 ℃/min for an hour at the conditions of 1100, 1200 and 1300℃and with the addition of 0% , 10% , 20% and 30% frit .
First the sintering densities were increased between 1100 and 1300 ℃ . The sintering densities according to the added amount of frit were increased slightly and reduced but it was also showed that the relative densities were increased .
The bending strength of the specimens without frit didn't show a big difference despite the increased sintering density according to the sintering temperature , which may indicate the increased sintering temperatures are not high enough to sinter pure Zlrcoma .
The hardness and destructive toughness were reduced as the sintering temperatures were increased , which is different from the changing aspect of the bending strength In conclusion , the sintered specimens of zirconia at 1300 ℃ with 20% frit added showed increased density , strength , hardness and destructive toughness together.
