This study selected questions and collaborative inquiry as key elements of literature classes to realize student agency, and designed a novel reading class. The class consisted of four stages: reading the work while generating questions, adjusting questions, exploring questions, presenting and reflecting. The class was conducted for third graders of middle schools in Seoul, based on Jeong Se-rang's "Reset" and Kim Hyo-in's "The Astronaut, Joan". As a result of analyzing the class experiences of students, three categories were derived: "Expanding the horizon of understanding through reading and doing", "Exploring in pleasure" and "Growing through reflection". In literature classes centered on student agency, reading needs to be understood more multifacetedly than reading literary works provided by teachers, and the pleasure felt during reading and participation in classes is closely related to the expression of student agency. Also, literature classes through questions and collaborative inquiry allow students to reflect on themselves and the worlds as well as on their inquiry process. Finally, it is necessary to find a way to lead these reflections to more actual practice.
