Ⅰ. INTRODUCTION
A national flag is a symbol of power and glory as well as existance of its nation. So we
may well be respectful to our national flag.
The purpose of this study is to reflect on the historical background and circumstances enacting the Tae-guek flag as the national flag of Korea, research on the actual condition of respect for the flag, and then get reference data which are necessary for education of guiding the respect for it.
Ⅱ. FINDINGS OF THE STUDY
1. The Tae-guek flag has been misunderstood up to now to be deviced by Young-Hyo Park for the first time in a ship which be travelled over as an envoy to Japan in 1882, but in fact it has been brought to light that be only reformed the diagram into the four divination signs from the eight divination signs in the flag, which had already been designed long since, after obtaining the King Gojong's informal consent.
2. The results of this research on the respect for the Tae-guek flag have come to light as follows.
1) 50% of 418 students researched admit that they neglect to keep their own
Tae-guek flag.
2) Only 1.4% know the meaning of the flag, but 52.9% don't.
3) Only 2.2% are convinced that they can make the flag correctly.
4) Only 8.6% remember that since when the flag has been enacted as our national flag, but 62.7% don't.
5) Students who know how to hoist the flag exactly form 51.7%.
6) 31.6% think that they always have respect for the Tae-guek flag and 64.1% don't.
Ⅲ. CONCLUSION
Some suggestions for the improved guidance of respect for the Tae-guk flag are as follows.
1. Various schools have to guide the meaning of the Tae-guek moderately for their students in every grade.
2. The guidance of respect for the Tae-guek shall be studied in a practical way
through concrete experiences.
3. The way to keep and hoist our national flag shall be guided to people in every community all over the country, as well as in the school, by various social organizations and mass communication.
4. The government authorities concerned have to condition in advance the Tae-guek flag for sale permit only the ones with correct diagram to be sold.
