<AbsText> FOR some days past the weather had been simply awful. Instead of the warmth of late spring, there had been the cold of mid-winter. An icy, Arctic blast had swept the country from end to end, and snow had fallen with the rain, though the fall had not lingered to make things still more unpleasant; and, to make matters worse, one heard nothing else but reports of depression in trade throughout the country-- and all the rest of it. </AbsText>
