When a sensitive information in sent or stored through the communication channel, the cryptographic technque must be employed in order to prevent it from attack (being exposed or modified etc.) by the illegal third party. GSM security system which is used in Europe is composed of A3, A5 and A8 ciphering algorithm. Roaming over GSM network in other countries is one of the major attractions to subscribers and authentication algorithm of each area is managed by that country.
In this paper, we proposed a new block cipher algorithm for GSM ciphering system. Also we implemented the proposed cipher algorithm using VHDL and verified the VHDL design through simulation. The security of proposed cipher algorithm was verified by LC and DC.
