자원봉사여행의 심리적 치유 효과 -심층면접법을 사용하여- = The Impact of Voluntourism on Voluntourists’ Psychological Well-being: The Application of In-depth Interview

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 자원봉사관광경험을 통한 여행참여자의 심리적 치유효과를 탐색적 연구방법을 통해 살펴보았다. 자원봉사관광의 심리적 치유효과와 관련된 연구가 충분히 이루어지지 않았기에 질적연구방법을 통해 자원봉사여행참여자들이 어떤 과정을 통해 심리가 변화되는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 24명의 자원봉사여행자들이 인터뷰에 참여하였고 인터뷰 자료의 내용분석 결과를 종합하면 총 8개의 범주를 포함한 것으로 해석되었다. 여행 이전 여행을 결정하고 준비하는 과정에서 겪는 스트레스 요인으로 그 원인에 따라 직장/학업 관련, 대인관계 관련, 체력(건강) 관련으로 구분할 수 있었다. 여행과정 중에 겪는 여러 가지 경험으로는 내외적인 갈등과 이의 해소과정, 난관의 극복과 감사 지각, 그리고 감정의 공유로 구분될 수 있었다. 마지막으로 이 모든 여행과정에서 얻어진 결과로는 소통을 통한 감정의 교류, 그리고 측은지심으로 인한 삶의 태도 변화로 본 논문의 주제인 심리적 치유와 연관된 내용을 중심으로 범주가 선택되었다. 연구결과를 통해 본 연구논문의 목적인 여행 참여 전에 가지고 있던 여러 가지 스트레스 요인과 부정적인 감정들, 또한 여행과정 가운데 경험하는 갈등과 부정적 정서가 여행 중 습득하게 되는 사회적, 정서적 능력의 고양을 통해 해결되는 과정을 발견할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 참여자의 심리적 변화를 야기하는 자원봉사관광의 구체적인 경험은 무엇인지 또 이것이 어떤 심리적 변화의 결과를 가져올 것인지를 알아보고자 하는 것이기 때문에 자원봉사관광의 연구에도 기여하는 바가 크며 이를 통해 자원봉사여행의 참여가 활성화될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to understand the effect of voluntourism experiences on voluntourists’ psychological well-being. This study used a qualitative research. 24 voluntourists who visited other countries were recruited for pre- or post-interviews or both interviews. The findings indicated that voluntourism experiences provided voluntourists with healing and psychological satisfaction through self-reflection from their relationships with other team members and locals. It is found that voluntourism led to the improvement of a psychological well-being in travelers. It is suggested that a better understanding of the impact of voluntourism on its travelers’ psychological well-being will lead organizations to offer support and services for the trips in terms of management of the relationships between travelers and locals.
