트랜스내셔널 소설에서 기억 서사의 의의 = The Meaning of Memorial Narratives in Transnational Novels

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study analyzed the structure and meaning of memorial narratives in so-called transnational novels. Memorial narratives contain three components: summon of memory, otherness of memory, and de-territorialization and rhizome formation. “Time to eat lobster,” “Namaste,” and “City of prophecy” reflect the transnational subject by showing that the mutual permeation of memories is not the sum of them but the formation of a new territory to change people’s present and future. Meanwhile, “Elephant” and “Sea and butterfly” show the importance of the counterpart for memory contact. These novels suggest that without memory contact, the transnational aspect does not exist. In conclusion, memorial narratives in transnational novels lead novel readers to the true meaning of the word “transnational” through these procedures.
