This study is to understand skilled workplace counselors’ job adaptation process. The subjects of this study were 13 internal model skilled work place counselors in a major company, analyzed through the grounded theory. The study’s results are as follows. 1) The findings were derived 20 categories, 44 subcategories and 106 concepts. 2) The paradigm emerged focusing on ‘confusion in professional identity’ as ‘a central phenomenon’, which affected by three ‘arbitration factors’ and four ‘actions/interactions’ in job adaptation process, leading to skilled workplace counselors’ five characteristics. 3) Expressed work place counselors’ job adaptation process’s model presented in five steps including the initial challenge period, the work expansion period, the professionalism stagnation period, the professionalism rebound period, the meaning pursuit period. 4) A situational model was presented by integrating key categories and related categories. This study is meaningful to reveal the identity discovery process and adaptation until a counselor becomes a skilled workplace counselor.
