At a time of changing nature of society, competency-based education is recommended for all vocational programs. Competency-based education (CBE) is education geared toward preparing individuals to perform identified competencies which are statement of a task that the individual is expected to perform successfully as he or she emerges from the learning process.
The purpose of this study is to provide one way to design filing instruction using CBE in the area of Secretarial Science. Following contents are examined: concept of CBE, key elements which must be present in CBE, goal setting in CBE, job analysis of CBE, instructional design of filing using CBE.
In conclusion, CBE is making progress toward their goals, so studies of how to enhance learning would be of value. There is no one way to teach for competence. A variety of instructional strategies to teach is a necessity. The beauty of the competency-based approach is its ability to manage diversity. Therefore, the CBE approach to instruction will serve as a powerful management tool for education. In order to make full use of competency-based education in Secretarial Science, there will be a need further research.
