This study investigates the question how value, practicality, effectiveness, efficiency, novelty, convenience that researchers who use the Korean gene bank to acquire genetic resources for biotechnology research and development (R&D) feel about genetic resources may affect their satisfaction or utility, based on genetic resources-use perspective. Referring to the survey data of Korean researchers using genetic resources from the gene bank administered by the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB), this study conducted conjoint and cluster analyses to estimate the relative importance of genetic resource attributes among the researchers. In addition, the study conducted cluster analysis to classify the group with the different pattern in terms of satisfaction. Then, the study carried out reliability and exploratory factor analyses to know both if the items surveyed are reliable or not and both if the items have validity or not.
Using the group classified by cluster analysis based on the researchers’ satisfaction and the factors derived from factor analysis, the study conducted a multinomial logistic regression analysis.
We proposed policy implications based on the results from the study.
