온실가스 배출권거래제 관련 사건이 기업가치에 미치는 영향 = The Impact of the Emission Trading Scheme-Related Events on Firm Value

This study aims to analyze the impact of the ETS(Emission Trading Scheme)-related events on firm value. Specifically, applying the event study methodology, this study investigates the impact of 3 ETS-related events(the passage of ETS bill, the notice of legislation for ETS, the enforcement of ETS) on the stock price generally assumed to reflect the present and future value of the firm. The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, the passage of ETS bill did not significantly affect the average value of firms. Second, the notice of legislation for ETS did not significantly affect the average value of the energy-intensive firms but significantly affected the average value of the relatively less-energy intensive firms. Lastly, the impact of the enforcement of ETS on average values of firms was not significant.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 온실가스 배출권거래제 관련 사건이 기업가치에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 것이다. 구체적으로 배출권거래제와 관련된 3가지 사건(배출권거래제법 국회통과, 배출권거래제 입법예고, 배출권거래제 시행)이 기업의 현재가치와 미래가치를 반영하는 것으로 간주되는 주식가격에 어떠한 영향을 주었는지를 사건연구방법론(event study)을 통하여 살펴보았다. 분석대상기업들은 각 사건 발생시점에 에너지 목표관리제 또는 배출권거래제 대상업체(또는 사업장)들이며 이들 중 코스피나 코스닥에 상장된 업체들을 선별하였다. 본 연구의 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 배출권거래제법 국회통과는 분석대상 기업들의 평균적인 기업가치에 의미있는 영향을 주지 않았다. 둘째, 배출권거래제 입법예고는 에너지다소비업종 기업들의 평균적인 기업가치에 유의미한 영향을 주지 않았지만 일반제조업종 기업들의 평균적인 기업가치에는 부정적인 영향을 주었다. 마지막으로 배출권거래제 시행은 분석대상 기업들의 평균적인 기업가치에 유의미한 영향을 주지 않았다.
