한국청소년 및 청년층의 화병성격에 나타난 유전과 환경의 영향 = Genetic and Environmental Influences on Hwabyung- Personality in South Korean Adolescents and Young Adults

Background: Recently it has been reported that the prevalence of hwabyung is increasing in Korean young adults. The purpose of the present study was to estimate genetic and environmental influences on Hwabyung-personality, a risk factor for the development of hwabyung. Hwabyung-personality is characterized by high levels of anger, impulsivity, harm-avoidance, social reward, and self-transcendence and a low level of self-directedness.
Methods: The hwabyung-personality scale was administered to 1476 twins [mean (SD) age=18.9 (±3.1 years)] via a telephone interview. Maximum likelihood twin correlations were computed and modelfitting analyses were performed.
Results: Monozyogotic (MZ) twin correlations were significantly higher than dizygotic (DZ) twins in hwabyung-personality scale in males and females, suggesting the presence of genetic influences on hwabyung-personality. DZ twin correlations were close to zero, indicating that genetic influences on hwabyung-personality are non-additive and that shared environmental infleunces are negligible. Model-fitting analysis revealed that genetic and non-shared environmental influences on hywabyungpersonality were 39% (95% CI=30%, 48%) and 61% (95% CI=54%, 69%), respectively. These estimates were not significantly different between males and females.
Conclusions: Genetic influences on hwabyung-personality found in the present study suggest that genetic vulnerability should be incorporated in prevention as well as treatment of hwabyung symptoms.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근들어 한국사회의 청년층에서 화병발생이 증가하는 추세라고 보고되고 있다. 본 연구는 화병의 위험요인으로 알려진 화병성격의 유전과 환경 요인을 측정하고자 하였다. 쌍생아(N=1476, 평균 연령=18.9세) 에게 화병성격척도를 실시한 후, 최대우도법으로 쌍생아 상관계수를 산출하고, 구조방정식 모형분석을 실시하였다. 구조방정식 모형분석 결과, 화병성격에 유전의 영향이 39% (95% CI=30%, 48%), 비공유환경의 영향이 61% (95% CI=54%, 69%)로 나타났으며, 공유환경은 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 또한, 이측정치는 남녀간에 유의하게 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 본 연구 결과는 앞으로 화병예방과 치료개입에 있어서 유전적 취약성이 중요하게 고려되어야 함 을 시사하고 있다.
