A previous article, in THE EVANGELIST of Feb. 15th, adverted to the fact that, as Presbyterians, we had long been, not so much living, as gradually dying on our last reputation and doings in the sphere of the higher Christian education; that though once we were foremost in the number and influence of our colleges, now the other great Evangelical denominations--the Baptists, Methodists, and Congregationalists--are far in advance of us, having more colleges, larger endowments, and larger incomes than the Presbyterians, and educating more young men for the great work of the ministry, and to be leaders in the other professions.
