Many things happened very short times. Remained May 1968 with powerful image may be overcame by its image. Theres no one to stingy who contribute May 1968 to the students. We all talk that the hero of May is students, we are busy adoring students. 1968 becomes a symbol, May 1968 in France stands for the movement. However 1968 in France spreads over in photographs, pictures, memories and illusions.
In 1968, the government and right wings wanted to repress Mays memory. Memories what shook France was forgotten in peoples memory, they want to come back their people like tender lamb. However Mays memory remains peoples memory, it become change them. The people who experience May 1968 and people who are heard about May 1968 wont release Mays memory were just memory.
As huge memory of May, there are variety estimates. First we must know about the time before May, before we rate and judge about May. Students movement did not suddenly come into being and shake France. The students were organized throw out Algeria War, they became find their own thought and were influenced by intellectuals who disputed with France common production. The criticism about social went on criticism and considerations about students environment, Not silence but resistance makes students going on. In composition of Cold War - time that people must select one side - students made gap at that time. Even if the opinions and dream future of students were extreme and just a dream, their dreams may were power what changed France and the people.

짧은 시간에 일어난 너무나 많은 일. 강한 이미지로 남은 프랑스의 1968년 5월은 그 스스로 자신의 이미지에 압도되었는지도 모른다. 1968년 5월을 학생에게 헌정하는 데 인색하게 구는 사람은 없다. 아니 모두들 5월의 주인공은 학생이라고, 학생들을 치켜세우기에 바쁘다. 1968은 상징이 되었고, 프랑스의 5월은 1960년대 운동을 대표하는 하나의 전형이 되었다. 그러나 사진과 그림들, 기억과 환상 속에서 프랑스의 1968은 떠돌고 있다.
1968년 당시, 정부와 우파 세력은 5월의 기억들을 억압하고자 했다. 프랑스를 뒤흔들었던 거대한 기억이 사람들의 뇌리에서 잊혀지고, 다시 순한 양과 같이 복종하는 프랑스인들로 돌아오기를 그들은 기대한 것이다. 그러나 5월의 기억은 사람들의 몸에 남아 서서히 그들을 변화시켜갔다. 1968년 5월을 경험한 사람들과 그 경험을 듣고 자란 세대들이 5월의 기억을 기억으로만 그치게 놔두지는 않았던 것이다.
5월의 ‘거대한’ 기억처럼, 5월에 대한 평가 역시 각양각색이다. 그러나 그러한 판단과 평가들을 내리기 이전에, 5월을 만들어낸 이전의 시간들에 대해서도 알아야 하지 않을까. 5월을 이끌었던 하나의 축인 학생운동은 1968년 갑자기 생겨나서 프랑스를 뒤흔든 것은 아니었다. 학생들은 알제리 전쟁이라는 시기를 거치며 조직화되기 시작하였고, 프랑스 공산당과 사상 논쟁을 벌이고 있던 지식인들에게서 영향을 받으며 자신들의 사상을 찾아가고 있었던 것이다. 사회에 대한 비판은 곧 자신들을 둘러싸고 있는 조건에 대한 고찰과 비판으로 나아갔으며, 침묵이 아닌 저항의 태도가 학생들을 움직이고 있었다. 냉전의 구도 속에서 어느 한편으로의 선택이 강요되었던 시기에 학생들은 그 구도에 틈새를 만들어내고 있었다. 비록 그들이 주장하고 그들이 꿈꾸었던 미래가 극단적이고 ‘이상향’에 불과했을 지라도, 그들이 꾸었던 꿈이 바로 프랑스와 프랑스 사람들을 변화시킨 힘이 아니었을까.
