The paper reports the outcome of a numerical study of flow over idealized L-shaped ribleted surfaces with a two-equation turbulence model. In the present study, the Launder & Sharma's k-ε turbulence model (LS model) is basically employed, but with a little modification. Compared to the original LS model. the present model predicts greatly improved drag reduction behavior for this geometry. Differences in the mean velocity profile are found to be limited to the inner region of the boundary layer. Mean velocity distributions above the riblets are also reduced in drag-reducing configurations. The present predictions are in good agreement with the recent DNS results by Choi et al.(1993).
