This study was conducted to investigate the resistance to low light intensity in several hot pepper cultivars in terms of plant growth, fruit yield and fruit characteristics in hot pepper. The results are summarized as follows ;
1) Plant height and branch length were increased by shading treatment, but top fresh weight and total number of branchs were decreased.
2) Plant height tended to increase in local traditional varieties as compared with F_(l) varieties in both experiments. However, fruit yield per plant was markedly higher in F_(1) varieties.
3) In the control plots, Saeronagun-gochu showed the highest fruit yield per plant. On the other hand, Kwariput-gochu showed the highest fruit yield under shading.
4) Fruit weight tended to be decreased by shading in most varieties except in Kwariput-gochu and Masan. Mean fruit weight was highest in Saeronagun-gochu in both experiments.
5) The shading treatment resulted in higher water content even red pepper fruits.
