A spectrophotometric method is proposed for determination of VP.
The method is based on solvent extract of complex formed between VP and colored PCA into chloroform.
The optimum pH range for the extraction is 3.0∼6.0.
The binding ratio of VP-PCA complex was presumed as VP-1 to PCA-1 by means of continuous variation and molar ratio.
Beer's law is obeyed over the range of VP concentration 1×10 5^M∼1.2×10 4^M.
The complex was differentiated from physical mixture of the two compounds by IR spectroscopy and the exsistance of intermolecular hydrogen bonding between the basic nitrogen of VP and the OH group of PCA was confirmed.
This method was suitable for the spectrophotometric determination of VP in mixed pharmaceutical preparation.
