The ballistic impact is a highly nonlinear problem. This paper represents experimental tests and numerical simulations of protection ballistic limit velocity on magnesium alloy plates which are made by POSCO. Numerical simulation results are compared with the experimental test data of AZ-31B-O to evaluate the performance of the simulation. Numerical simulation were performed using AUTODYN-3D ver.6.1 which is based on finite differences method. The numerical results are compared well with the experimental results. Also, experimental test of protection ballistic limit velocity on the other magnesium alloy plate(ZK-60) is performed. The ultimate strength of ZK-60 is higher than AZ-31B-O. Through the experimental tests, we can estimate the effectiveness of ultimate strength.
