Image segmentation is used as the prior condition in image processing and is an extremely important operation in several applications of computer vision. However, researched segmentation methods need lots of time and user intervention. In case of multiview images(MVI), it is especially hard to apply because of numerous images in MVI. In this paper, we propose a new technique for multiview image segmentation, which needs minimum user intervention and provides fast processing time. Moreover, we can exploit the 3D model which is generated on segmentation processing.
The proposed multiview image segmentation system consists of the tentative segmentation step using graph-cut and refinement step using visual hull. First, we extract tentative foreground area of all multiview images using graph-cut based on minimum user intervention. Though several images involve segmentation error in this process, we can eliminate the error region by generating 3D model using visual hull and reprojecting the object. We can segment effectively and quickly many images, because whole processing is concluded within several seconds.
