시선추적 데이터를 활용한 국내 교육 연구 동향 분석: 인지과정 프레임워크를 바탕으로 = A Systematic Review of Educational Research Using Eye-Tracking Data: based on the cognitive process framework

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 시선추적 데이터를 활용한 연구는 기존의 자기보고식 데이터의 한계에서 벗어나 학습자의 인지과정을 실증적으로 분석할 수 있다는 점에서 교육학 분야에서 활발히 연구가 수행되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 지난 11년간 학습자의 시선추적 데이터와 관련된 주제로 발간된 국내 학술지 논문을 체계적으로 분석하여 향후 시선추적 데이터를 활용한 연구의 방향성을 제시하고자 하였다. 분석을 위해 2011년부터 2021년까지 국내 학술지에 게재된 60편의 연구를 선정하여, 학습자의 인지과정 프레임워크(선택, 조직화, 정교화, 메타인 지적 과정, 학습과 무관한 과정)에 따라 시선추적 데이터의 종류와 의미를 확인하고, 연구 대상과 교과 유형, 연구 변인을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 주로 과학과 수학 영역에서 초등학생을 대상으로 진행하는 연구가 많았으며, 시간 및 빈도 지표와 시선고정 데이터가 주로 사용되고 있었다. 또한 학습자의 조직화, 선택 과정에 비하여 학습과 무관한 과정, 메타인지적 과정을 탐색하기 위해 사용된 시선추적 데이터는 매우 적었다. 마지막으로, 독립 변인에는 교수설계, 개인차, 종속변인에는 성취도, 주의집중이 설정된 연구가 많았다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 향후 교육 연구에서 시선추적 데이터의 사용 가능성과 방향성을 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Eye-tracking technology is a non-invasive method that allows objective analysis of a learner’s cognitive process. There has been an increasing interest in employing eye-tracking technology in educational contexts. In this study, a systematic literature analysis that encompassed 60 domestic studies published from 2011 to 2021 was conducted. The type and meaning of eye tracking data, target groups, subjects, and research variables were analyzed based on the cognitive process framework. The findings showed that studies were conducted mainly on elementary school students in science and math. Furthermore, temporal measures, count measures, and fixations were primarily used. However, learners’ extraneous and metacognitive processes were explored in a paucity of studies in comparison to selecting and organizing processes. Finally, while instructional design and individual differences were utilized mainly as independent variables, learning performance and attention were employed as dependent variables. In accordance with the results, implications for eye-tracking technology and future research in educational studies are discussed.
