Park Mong Gu. 2002. The Study of the Relation between Imagery and Poetry Kim Hyun-Sung. Kim Hyun-Sung (1913~1975) had published 6 collections of poems including 'Supporter's Song' and 'Firm Solitary' since he made his appearance into world of poetry through Donga-Ilbo in 1934. He was a poet who was not affected by the trends of the times and religious feelings but rather with his own consistent thought. That is to say, he was a poet who left an impression in modem poetry history with his unique poetic style and stood aloof from worldlythings.
People evaluated him as a 'lonely' and 'Christian Poet'. But he was especially good at creating imagery through clear and poetic words. In addition, he hadpublished some abstract as well as symbolic poems. He would extend the meaning of poetic words such as 'Jewel' and 'Star' to variousangles. He considered poems containing symbolism 'pure poetry'. This type of poetry was very difficult to build other poems with extreme personal symbolism and newly-developed techniques. In addition, it was also difficult to find the general social problems as well as private and personal topics. But Kim Hyun-Sung's poetry was based on various and fresh imagery and dealt with general social problems as well as personal topics. That's why he was considered a rare poet. Moreover, he became the center of the poetry world through good works which he handled during the evil of the industrial and military dictatorship era. This was the peak of his career from 1960 to 1970 where his poetry was polished and perfected. We could see that his ideas and art form were the same through his amazing works. Therefore, he was thought of as a modernist who didn't follow foreign ideas but rather native Korean Culture. It was a solution to the problem facing the Korean Poetic Society that continually argued between pure and participate. For some time he was evaluated as Christian Poet, but it became evident that his skills far exceeded those of other poets. Only a few like Kim Gi-Rim and Jeong Ji-Young were considered Modernist Poets, but Kim Hyun-Sung's poetry also deserved the same recognition. He was especially considered a poet who was interested in a variety of topics based on the role of society as well as methodology.
