여성 아카이브의 전회: 여성주의 진(zines)의 기록을 중심으로 = The Turn of Women’s Archives: Focusing on the Records of Feminist Zines

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 여성 아카이브에서 여성의 타자화, 그리고 그 대상의 협소함에 대한 비판적 인식에서 출발한다. 여성을 더 이상 기록 행위의 수동적 타자가 아닌 주요 행위자로 복권하고, ‘여성 아카이브’의 전환을 모색한다. 이를 위한 구체적 방법으로, 여성주의에 입각해 여성 스스로 자신들의 주변화된 일상생활을 재해석하기 위해 제작하고 있는 ‘여성주의 진(zines)’에 주목한다. 무엇보다도 여성주의 진의 아카이브적 가치를 적극적으로 수용하고, 진을 여성 아카이브의 중요한 수집 및 보존 대상으로 보고 접근한다. 분석에서는, 서구 여성주의 진의 컬렉션 구축 과정에서 불거질 수 있는 주요 기록학적 쟁점들, 특히, 진 컬렉션을 통한 페미니즘 정치의 공식화, 반(反)공공성, 제도적 분류의 부적합성 문제를 뽑아내고 이를 집중적으로 검토한다. 본 연구는 이들 서구 여성주의 진 컬렉션 쟁점을 짚어내는 과정을 통해, 국내에서는 아직 미완의 현실에 머물러 있지만 향후 여성주의 진 아카이브의 구축 논의를 위한 방향을 시론적으로 제공할 수 있다고 본다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study arises from a critical awareness of the otherness of women in archives and the narrow scope of the subjects included. It seeks to restore women as primary agents in the act of documentation, rather than passive objects of record, and explores a transformation of the concept of the ‘women’s archive’. As a concrete method for this endeavor, the study focuses on feminist zines, which are produced by women themselves to reinterpret their marginalized everyday lives from a feminist perspective. In particular, it actively acknowledges the archival value of feminist zines and considers them as significant materials for documentation in women’s archives. This study highlights key archival issues that have emerged in the process of building Western feminist zine collections, with particular attention to the formalization of feminist politics through zine collections, counter-/anti-publicity, and the inadequacy of institutional classification. By examining these issues, this study aims to offer a preliminary discussion of the future direction of feminist zine archives, which remain an unfinished reality in the domestic context.
