The purposes of this study were to investigate the current situation of safety education for young children and to identify the degree of implementation of safety education in Korean kindergartens and daycare centers. For these purposes, 576 early childhood teachers in Korea responded to a questionaire developed by the researchers. The conclusions drawn from the results of the present study are as follows : 1) Safety education for young children should be emphasized in early childhood educational institutes, especially in daycare centers. For this, a program of safety education for young children should be developed in the context of the existing curriculum of early childhood education. 2) A course related to the safety education of young children should be included in both preservice and inservice education program for teachers of young children. 3) Educational materials for safety education should be developed and provided for both young children and early childhood teachers. 4) A Program model which connects the home and society should be studied and developed for more effective safety education.
