This study sought to determine the learning world and lived experiences of U-turn adult learners as a new group of learners. The purpose was to reflect on the educational value and meaning of lifelong learning from the viewpoint of such learners who transferred to or enrolled at a community college after graduating from a four-year general college. Accordingly, narrative data obtained through in-depth interviews with U-turn adult learners were collected and analyzed. The results revealed that the adult learners found their true selves through the U-turn process. Furthermore, the difficulties in relationships that arose from combining personal disposition and work/study were noted. In addition, this study confirmed that self-directed learning was strengthened and the phenomenon of transitional learning for a new future. The hope is that this study provides a better understanding of U-turn adult learners who have proactively reorganized their lives, and we anticipate the development of various support programs in the future.
