This paper describes power management control strategy for series hybrid electric vehicle(SHEV). To evaluate improvement of fuel economy due to hybridization of conventional vehicle, series hybrid electric vehicle model which consists of electric driving motor, generator and battery are added to conventional vehicle model is developed. Model validation is conducted to improve accuracy by using experiment data. Considering required power and state of charge(SOC), controller determines amount of power produced by engine-generator then decides optimal operating point. Performance of designed controller is verified via comparison of fuel consumption when vehicles travel representative driving cycle.
