Recently some efforts to standardization of oriental medicine have been made, especially in the department of diagnosis. In the traditional oriental medical diagnosis, the objectivity and the reproducibility were both scanty because most oriental medical examinations were depended upon patients’ subjective complaints or upon doctors’ five sensory organs. Therefore the application of inspecting devices to oriental medical diagnosis is needed. In application of inspecting devices, the target measured should be related to oriental medical theory. Skin resistance, skin temperature and pulse wave, which can be named as biofunctional signals, are included in these targets.
Skin resistance variability(SRV), a kind of biofunctional signals, is different from skin resistance in that SRV is the contour map of skin resistance. By SRV, we can measure the evenness of skin resistance. This study was designed for measuring the difference of SRV between male and female, between old and young. We detected SRV by ABR-2000 from 162 subjects who had been mostly suffered from diabetes mellitus. After detection of SRV, we performed correlation analysis and one-way ANOVA by SPSS.x.
As a result, SRV in man was higher than that in woman and SRV in young was higher than that in old. In one-way ANOVA, SRV of low part on the body was higher than high part on the body. These results are similar to that of the most previous study on skin resistance. Most subjects being suffered from diabetes mellitus, however, it is problematic that this result can be applied to healthy subjects. More study on SRV of healthy subjects is needed in the future.
