가다머의 철학적 해석학과 언어의 사변적 구조 = Gadamer’s Philosophical Hermeneutics and the Speculative Structure of Language

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 가다머의 ｢진리와 방법｣ 3부에 나타난 언어관을 중심으로 하여, 그의 언어관이 이해를 통한 인간의 존재론적 변화라는 교육학적 관심과 맺는 관련을 탐색하는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 가다머는 이해를 인간의 근본적인 존재 방식으로 규정하고, 언어를이해의 보편적 매체라고 본다. 그에게 있어서 이해라는 것은 인간이 언어를 매개로 하여 존재를 추구하는 일이다. 가다머는 언어 이전에 사물이나 존재가 먼저 규정될 수 있다고 보는 생각과 이러한 사고의 필연적 귀결로서, 언어가 이미 인지된 사물을 지시하는 기호나 도구에 불과한 것이라는 생각을 비판한다. 존재와 존재의 표현으로서의 언어는 사변적 단일성을 이루며, 존재는 언어 안에 ‘구분 아닌 구분’의 방식으로 내재한다. 그런데 인간의 이해는 시간적 차원을 가지는 활동이라는 점에서 역사성을 가진다. 언어와 존재의 관계는 사변적 운동이라는 역동적인 관점에서 이해될 때 보다 잘 드러난다. 사변적 운동은 언어와 존재의 사변적 구조가 역사적 차원에서 어떻게 구체화되는지를보여주기 때문이다. 이때, 언어와 존재 사이의 사변적 구조와 운동을 인식하며 존재 이해를 추구하는 사람을 사변적 인간이라고 말할 수 있을 것이다. 가다머가 사변적 구조와 운동을 설명하면서 이끌어낸 사변적 인간의 개념은 교육을 통하여 길러내고자 하는인간상과 다르지 않다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this article is to explore Gadamer s view on language found in Truth and Method in terms of its ontological significance in human understanding and human cultivation. Gadamer defines understanding as the fundamental mode of human existence and sees language as a universal medium of understanding. For him, understanding is the event in which the infinite and the finite are mediated by language. Gadamer criticizes the dominant views that things or being can be defined before language, or that language is nothing more than a sign or a tool to refer to things that are believed to be recognizable without language. Gadamer argues that language is a representation of being, and being and language form a speculative unity. It is also argued that human understanding has its own historicity in that it is unfolded in its temporal dimension. The relationship between language and being is better understood in this historicity of the dynamics of speculative movement. A person who participates in the event of understanding with a heightened recognition of the speculative movement between language and being can be properly described as a speculative person. And the speculative person in this sense is just another name for the educated man.
