Evaluation of left ventricular diastolic function is essential, especially in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. The American Society of Echocardiography/European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging guidelines were released in 2016. Four principal parameters were used to assess left ventricular diastolic function. However, there are grey areas; the situation is complex. Recently, various other indicators have been employed to explore left ventricular diastolic function. (Korean J Med 2022;97:368-374)
