초기 모더니즘 가구와 동시대 회화의 조형적 유사성에 관한 연구 = A Study on Formative Similarity of Furniture in the Early Modernism and Contemporary Arts

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In the early 20th century in Europe when the trend of early modernism was established, new values and demand on these values were drastically increased amidst the social and cultural change caused by the industrial revolution and actual exploration on the internal essentials was realized in full-scale while refusing to follow the past in the entire field of arts. Such artistic trend was not limited to a particular area or field but the phenomenon that showed similar patterns in all areas including painting, sculpture, architecture, and design while resulting in correlation with the contemporary artistic trend. Such characteristic is said to be a significant criterion to study and analyze the artworks of the early modernism. Thus in this study, it intended to prove the formative correlation between contemporary arts and furniture design by verifying the ideological and philosophical relationship with the contemporary arts when it came to discussing formative principles as well as its theoretical foundation of furniture design in the early modernism. The arts of the early modernism started from cubism and Russian Constructivism to Vienna Secession and De Stijl group. In consideration of such fact, the study analyzed the correlation and formative similarity of the arts in the early modernism through artworks from the 19th century when the movement of the early modernism began until the period of the Bauhaus in Germany that was said to provide the formative principles and foundation of modern furniture design. In addition, the originalities of mordernism furniture design in 20th century that had developed through mutuality with the contemporary arts were analyzed and related illustrations were suggested. As a consequence, the theoretical background of furniture design in the early modernism was developed with contemporary arts such as painting, architecture, and so on.
Also, this has established the basic formation of modern furniture design.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

초기 모더니즘 사조가 성립되었던 20 세기 초 유럽에서는 산업혁명에 따른 사회적․문화적 변화 속에서 새로운 가치와 요청이 쇄도하였고, 예술 전 분야에서 과거의 답습을 부정하며 인간의 내적 본질에 대한 탐구가 본격적으로 이루어지기 시작하였다. 당시의 이러한 예술적 흐름은 비단 한 지역이나 분야에 국한된 현상이 아니라 회화, 조각, 건축, 디자인 등 전 분야에서 유사한 방식으로 나타나며 동시대 예술경향과의 상호 연관성을 갖는 결과를 낳았는데 이는 초기 모더니즘 시대의예술 작품들을 연구하고 분석함에 있어 중요한 기준이 된다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 초기 모더니즘 가구디자인의 조형적 원리와 이론적 기틀 정립을 논함에 있어 동 시대 미술과의 이념적․철학적 연관성을 확인함으로써, 동시대 미술과 가구디자인의 조형적 연관성을 규명하고자 함에 연구 목적을 두었다. 연구 범위와 연구방법으로는 큐비즘과 러시아 구성주의로부터 시작되어 비엔나 분리파와 데 스틸 그룹에 이르는 초기 모더니즘 시대의 미술이 초기 모더니즘 운동이 시작되었던 19 세기부터 모더니즘 가구디자인의 조형적 원리와 기틀이 마련되었다고 할 수 있는 독일 바우하우스 시대에 이르기까지 어떠한 상관관계와 조형적 유사성을 지니고 있는지 작품사례를 통해 분석하였다. 또한 동시대 미술과 상호성을 가지며 발전해온 초기 모더니즘 가구디자인의 특징을 분석하여 도판과 함께 제시하였다. 본 연구를 통해 초기 모더니즘 가구디자인의 조형세계는 동시대 회화, 건축 등 다양한 분야와의 연관성을 가지며 발전해 왔으며 이를 통해 가구 본연의 의미와 가치에 대한 연구가 활발하게 이루어지며 오늘날 가구디자인의 기틀이 되었다는 결론을 도출하였다.
