The purpose of this study was to develop a condition management measurement scale by defining a condition management factor of an athlete and applying a diagnostic classification model. This study specified the following were set up and research questions. First, Delphi validation was used to select the condition management factors of athletes and to develop preliminary items Second, the Q-matrix validation was verified by using Jacquard coefficients and parameter estimates. Third, the items of the scale developed by applying the diagnostic classification model were compared with the items developed by applying confirmatory factor analysis and Rasch model. Fourth, the utilization of the developed scale by applying the diagnostic classification model was discussed. The results of the study are as follows.
First, in order to develop a scale of athletic condition management, Delphi survey was conducted on 20 expert groups. Finally, a scale of 6 factors and 44 items was developed.
Second, the validity of the athlete condition management measurement scale was verified by applying the diagnostic classification model. Finally, the scale was developed with 6 factors and 30 items. The validity of this model was obtained by using Jacquard coefficient and Fusion model.
Third, the results of the developed scale were compared with those of the developed scale using the confirmatory factor analysis and the Rasch model. 14 items of confirmatory factor analysis and 14 items of Rasch model were removed. The results of the items between the diagnostic classification model and the confirmatory factor analysis showed that 32 out of 44 items were consistent. The results of the Rasch model showed that 44 out of 44 items were consistent.
Fourth, the results of the athletes participating in the study were presented as a method to use the athletic condition management measures developed by applying the diagnostic classification model. The athletes item response pattern and the probability of holding the condition management attribute are presented, and the profile according to the attribute retention is produced. The athletes condition management attribute level is presented graphically and summarized what strengths and weaknesses of athletes are.
In conclusion, this study developed of measurement scale of condition management for athletes by using diagnostic classification model. Furthermore, this study can be used as a basic data to applicability of the diagnostic classification model in the development of the scale.
