공공 디자인의 시민문화적 토대에 관한 이론적 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 공공성(public)의 개념이 과연 국가의 개념과 호환될 수 있는가 하는 문제를 제기한다. 공공디자인에 있어서 지속가능성이 있는 요소라면 가장 중요한 것이 디자인 표현과 기술이 아니라 디자인의 콘셉트 즉, 정신에 있기 때문에 공공성이 자리하는 지역문화의 역사와 구조에 기댈 수밖에 없다는 것이 본 연구의 주장이다. 공공성을 실현하는 마인드가 산업주의자 개인과 연관을 지녔지만 디자인의 공공성에 대한 지향점은 본질적인 사회시민의 위치에서 벗어난 적이 없다. 이를 재삼 강조하면서 현재 벌어지는 공공디자인의 방향을 시민사회에 두는 것이다. 문제는 시민 사회속에서 수행되는 디자인의 본질은 경제라든가, 개인의 스타일이 아니라 전통문화이며 국제화의 흐름에 동화하는 전통문화의 자기개발 정신이라는 점을 강조한다. 인간의 의식과 지각을 분업화시키지 않고 종합적인 상태를 유지하는 존재는 바로 공동체의 문화이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The public design projects are in vogue in Korea. But, leading by the State and city administrations, the projects go on without any sincere on the concept of "public" itself. I propose a frame for understanding this concept in the theoretical perspective. The design has its history which is in company with the industrial process of capitalist society. The capitalist society, without public administration for design project, little by little eliminated the public substance of design activities, takes whole power of decision to the public presentation of design in the final by its capital use. But this phenomenon brings about a deep problem: confusion between the public design and the static one. The main reason why this confusion become a general feature of working the public design is that the capital power carries over some mutual agreements on what the public and public design are. I examine this problem of public through a comparative approach between the state and the civil society for defining the public and public design. From 18th century to our days, the concept of the public has a similar with that of civil society. Because, the civil society is well represented public, much more than a state, by its ideology and their mode of communication. This is my first conclusion. The second is that the public design is not of material one and a result of survey on citizens' opinion neither, but that of the civil society's history of communicative structure.
