수피즘의 힌두화 과정과 인도무슬림들의 종교사상적 딜레마 = The Process of Incorporation of Sufism into the Hindu Society and Indian Muslims' Dilemma

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문의 취지는 인도무슬림들이 안고 있는 딜레마의 종교사상적 측면에 대한 연구를 수행하는 것이다. 본 논문에서 다뤄지는 인도무슬림들은 태생적으로 이슬람교도인 경우가 아니라 힌두교도이다가 수피즘의 영향을 받아 이슬람교도로 개종한 사람들이다. 이것이 인도무슬림들의 사회적 정체성 문제의 종교사상적 측면에 대한 연구를 위해 수피즘에 초점을 맞추는 이유이다.
따라서 본 논문은 수피즘의 영향을 받아 이슬람교도로 개종한 인도무슬림들의 종교 사상적 딜레마 현상을 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구를 통해 그러한 딜레마를 안고 사는 인도무슬림 계층은 인도사회의 하층민들로서 수피들의 숭고한 도덕성과 평등사상의 교의를 담은 이슬람교를 수용하여 이슬람교도로 개종한 힌두들이라는 사실이 드러난다. 이들이 안고 있는 딜레마는 힌두교도이던 인도인들이 이슬람교도로 개종한 이후에도 제식의례가 풍부한 힌두교의 종교관습을 버리지 못하는 것은 물론 문화적 동질성 그 외 나트요기인 종교 지도자의 비범한 능력등에 의해 그 영향에서 벗어나지 못하는데서 비롯된다.
본 논문에서는 인도무슬림들이 안고 있는 딜레마의 극복을 위한 대안이 모색된다. 그 일환으로 수피즘의 수행체계에 대한 고찰을 통해 절대적 존재와의 합일 추구 과정을 드러내 보임으로써 힌두이즘과 이슬람교의 교리적 차이로 인한 딜레마는 인종과 종파를 초월하는 수행을 통해 극복될 수 있다는 점이 강조된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purport of this essay is to investigate the religious-philosophical aspect of the dilemma Indian Muslims have. The aim of this essay primarily consists in the analysis of the phenomenon of religious-philosophical dilemma that the Indian Muslims have, through the investigation of the historical background of the advent of Sufism in the Indian sub-continent and of the process of its incorporation into the Indian culture.
The present investigation brings out that the fold of the Indian Muslims that deserves our special attention on account of such a dilemma is of those Hindus who converted themselves into Islam inspired by the Sufis as highly noble persons and by the Islamic doctrine of equality. The dilemma such Indian Muslims have is derivable from the fact that they not only fail to do without the rich religious rituals and ceremonies of Hinduism, but cannot become free from the cultural homogeneity and the extraordinary spiritual power of the Nathyogis.
In this essay I make an attempt to provide an alternative as a way out of the above-mentioned dilemma. The investigation of the spiritual practices as found in the tradition of Sufism brings to light the process of arriving at the unity with the Absolute. In result, it is stressed that the dilemma ascribable to the doctrinal difference between Hinduism and Islam can be overcome with the help of the spiritual practices of Sufism, which give rise to the experience of the universal religious essentiality that help to go beyond the racial and religious diversity.
