서유구의 학문관과『임원경제지』의 글쓰기 방식 = Academic Viewpoint of Seo, Yugu and a Writing Type of Imwon Gyeongjeji

국문 초록 (Abstract)

『임원경제지』는 서유구가 벼슬에서 물러나면서 본격적으로 찬술하기 시작하여 생을 마감하기 얼마 전까지도 그 내용을 수정 보완한 서책이다. 말하자면 한 인간이 평생의 신념을 담아 편찬한 책이라고 할 수 있다. 그 신념이란 결국``어떤 학문을 할 것이며, 무엇을 저술로 남길 것인가``에 대한 질문이 아닌가 생각된다. 본고는 이 점에 착안하여 농학과 수학, 그리고 목록학에 대한 서유구의 생각들을 검토해보고, 이러한 학문관이 반영된『임원경제지』의 글쓰기 방식에 대해 살펴본 것이다. 그 내용을 요약해 보면, 서유구는 학문의 가치를 실용성과 전문성에 두었으며, 그 서술은 자세하고 쉽게 써야 한다고 생각하였다. 또 방대한 양의 문헌 지식과 정보들을 일목요연하게 정리해 내는 목록학의 중요성을 강조하고 있다. 그런데 여기서 말하는 실용성과 전문성이란 인문학보다는 자연과학의 장점이고, 목록학의 중요성이란 문헌의 정보화와 효율적인 지식 검색에 있다고 할 수 있다. 이러한 학문관은 근대 학문의 추세와도 궤를 같이하는 것으로, 바로 이 점이 서유구의 학문과『임원경제지』가 가지는 문명성이 아닌가 생각된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Imwon Gyeongjeji is a book that Seo, Yugu started to write after he retired from a governmental position and supplemented and modified its contents till he died. In other words, this is a book that has a lifetime faith compiled. That faith gets down to ``What kind of learning should we do? or what kind of writings should be leave behind? In this research, I have taken into consideration of thoughts of Seo, Yugu about agriculture, mathematics, and bibliography, and I have review a type of writing of Imwon Gyeongjeji with this kind of learning viewpoint. When summarizing such things, Seo, Yugu put value of learning on practicality and speciality with its writing specifically described in details. In addition, a vast amount of literature knowledge and information should, he emphasized, be consistently and coherently organized, putting importance on listing studies. By the way, what refers to practicality and speciality herein is a merit to natural science rather than human studies, and the importance of bibliography can be linked to informationization of bibliography and efficient knowledge search. This kind of learning viewpoint is similarly connected to the trend of modern learning. In this respect, I think that Seo, Yugu`s learning and Imwon Gyeongjeji have literary fame in common.
