The great priest Won Hyo of Silla Dyansty(617∼686) played an important role as foreronner in the movement aimed at popularizing the Boddhism as he lived a life in unrestricted and free way. Priest Won Hyo versed well up in all su ̄tra and abhidharma and one of important works heedid was the completion of summarized doctrine. As both Indian Buddhism known as a radical Buddhism and Chinese Buddhism as sectarian Buddhism, both nations often brought into conflict each other contending over the doctrines; Maha ̄yana and Hina ̄yana; nature and appearance. Priest Won Hyo did much in trying to reconcile both sectors. Preist Won Hyo write the book, “Reconciling on ten departments”, in an attempt to settle all controversies and uniting into one doctrine. Among those literary workes still existing including the Lotus Su ̄ttra, priest Won Hyo elucidated the doctrine of Eka ̄-yana, awakened, and made intercommunication possible. The object of this thesis is to clucidate the essence of Eka ̄yana of priest Won Hyo. Priest Won Hyo expounded the significance of Eka ̄-yana resting on the teachings of Buddha and all Bodhi-sattva. And the main subject stressed was something mankind had to learn and cultivate, naming “Darma Doctrine”, which is said to be divided into active and passive. Active is those human being active and passive are expounded further in four aspects of principle, teaching, cause, and result. Eka ̄yana is described as a method to pursue the real appearance. Lastly, priest Won Hyo said that the Buddha's lading to the truth to be awakening and awakening further classified by passive gate and active gate. Passive gate represents Triyana. Revelator is divided in two; active and passive. Passive is the truthful appearance and active represents the convenience of method of Triyana and Eka ̄yana. Priest Won Hyo brought an end to the doctrinal controverse with the ideology of Eka ̄yana and led to one mind.
