Due to the recent resurgence of XR technology and the pandemic situation of COVID-19, all industries are paying attention to mataverse. The concept of metaverse is still in the process of continuing to develop, and various discussions are being made in the media and industry. There are cases of new attempts using metaverse in various industries such as education, culture, arts, public relations, marketing, entertainment, daily life, production and manufacturing, and this study analyzes the implementation of new exhibition spaces by focusing on exhibition spaces in the cultural and artistic fields.
The scope of the study is presented in terms of spatial scope, temporal scope, and content, and the spatial scope is limited to the growing number of metaverse exhibitions and fairs, and the temporal scope is limited to exhibitions and fairs opened from 2020 to 2022. Finally, the content range is limited to the concept and characteristics of metaverse, type, status, and directing media analysis. The method and purpose of this study is to analyze and synthesize the characteristics and operational problems of metaverse in the case and derive a directing medium suitable for the current exhibition space.
The contents of this study can be summarized as follows.
Chapter 1 introduces the background, purpose, method, and scope of research, Chapter 2 analyzes the definition and status of metaverse through theoretical consideration, and explains the necessity of exhibition space and the application of metaverse. Chapter 3 describes the analysis of metaverse characteristics and the metaverse implementation toolkit and platform. Chapter 4 briefly summarizes the conclusions made by designating, analyzing, and synthesizing cases of metaverse exhibition spaces.
First, metaverse continues to develop, and the concept that existed only theoretically is partially becoming a reality. As the ultimate goal, it is seen as a complete mirror world or another real world that can replace reality, and among them, the exhibition space is an essential space, and various types of exhibitions should be implemented in the metaverse and research should be continued.
Second, in the comparative analysis of toolkits and platforms for implementing metaverse exhibition spaces, knowledge of program language is essential, and in the case of platforms, accessibility to implement spaces is relatively easy as a platform in an environment primarily implemented using the above toolkits.
Third, as a conclusion obtained by analyzing the case, the implementation of the exhibition space using a platform that shows relatively many corresponding matters in the items of the analysis frame is currently seen as the closest result to the implementation of the metaverse exhibition space. However, the limitations are still clear, so it is necessary to increase the level of immersion and interest of visitors by allowing them to experience differentiated forms of space and content.
In this study, it is necessary to analyze the directing medium for effective implementation and viewing of exhibition space using metaverse, and it is meaningful to derive a platform that can implement exhibition space including all the elements that can be expressed currently within the concept of metaverse. Currently, mataverse is growing rapidly unlike in the past and is being shown in various industrial fields. Research on the realization of a space that can induce more use by applying metaverse in exhibition spaces sensitive to these changes should be continuously conducted, and this study is considered to be a guide to the direction of the application of directing media in the metaverse exhibition space plan.
