As a pursuit of a beautiful life, consumers' desire for cosmetics is diversified and advanced. Today, as a society diversifies and the aesthetic values of consumers increase, the interest in cosmetics is also augmented. As the lifestyle and market environment of consumers changed, the cosmetics industry grew and became a high-value industry. If the number of cosmetic products increases, then the number of manufacturers also increases. By the 1980s, the distribution structure of visiting sales accounted for more than 80%. However, when a store, called a cosmetics shop, was created, consumers could receive services such as consultation based on professional knowledge. Also, satisfaction was obtained as the buyers had a wide range of product choices and satisfaction on their purchases. During this period, enterprises of middle standing joined in this situation which ensued cosmetics specialty stores have a high share of the market. Conversely, when road shops of low-cost cosmetics appeared, the market share started to shrink. As a result, the market share of the road shop cosmetics was increased, and the shops began to invest a tremendous amount of money in advertising and marketing. Companies tried to differentiate their brands and expressed the brand identity that could amplify the image in order to give satisfaction to the consumers. Now, the brand needs to get consumer's response through visual image rather than an explanation of information. In this dimension, VMD is emerging as a strategy to express a brand identity by expressing a brand visually and understandably, thereby increasing consumers' motivation and satisfaction. Based on these backgrounds, we plan to implement VMD and space design for Innisfree brand, which has grown steadily in road shop cosmetics and has gained a lot of recognition. In order to understand the brand identity and VMD, theoretical considerations are applied. Furthermore, statistical techniques are applied as a method to understand and construct the brand which would lead to construct the brand identity. We achieved five value types through the analysis value structure according to the statistical techniques. We interpret that Value Type 1 is an entity of human - a quiet but tactile behavior; Type 2 is a silent and tactile character of nature; Value Type 3 is the dynamic and auditory movement of nature; Value Type 4 is the dynamic element of natural materials; Value Type 5 is the kinetic experience and sensation of human about the time of nature. Through the five types of values, the point of view that Innisfree pursues is concluded that the relationship between human beings and nature as the subject and the object influence each other. These five value types would be analyzed with the components of the flagship store VMD currently run by Innisfree, and the five value types would be selected using the site of the Innisfree Jeju House Samcheong branch, which had a weak brand identity, to build a new worldview of Innisfree.
Based on the results of the value structure analysis, the VMD component and spatial program will be used to construct a detailed presentation of Innisfree's worldview. By showing the embodied world of Jeju Island based on the pursue of Innisfree through various programs, circulations, and natural materials used in the space, it becomes a moment to experience new value by densifying the relationship with customers who actually experience the space. These experiences can be delivered in space through the brand identity. Visiting customers can experience five types of values sensationally that are applied to space as each component of VMD. This event can be a moment that allows customers to understand the philosophy and perspectives of the brand.
The brand identity value structure and method obtained in this study can be applied in various cases of the brand, and I think that it will contribute to building more effective brand space.
